Collection: Reliquaries
The objects we keep tell the quiet story of who we are.
My fascination with the material presence of the past traces back to childhood—shaped by time spent in museums, filling in the blanks of distant stories, or at home, rifling through knick-knacks with my grandmother. Though not a craftswoman by trade, her love of collecting, handwork and storytelling largely inspired my journey towards becoming a maker. After her passing, I became increasingly interested in how we anchor memories through physical things - and how the significance of these objects can shift as those memories attached to them evolve.
Through silver my love for collecting has translated into a love of box-making. Boxes call for discovery, they are how I explore my curiosity for personal archives and extend them to the viewer. The objects I make are designed to facilitate material connection, encouraging value to be placed on the belongings that are narrative your own story. By merging traditional Scottish craftsmanship with domestic narratives, I aim to create work that feels distant, yet somewhat familiar. These reliquaries highlight how we once ritualised and valued objects in the past—and how the desire to connect through physical things persists today.
